INITIAL STRATEGY ANALYSIS

For most land use and environmental issues, there are a variety of potential strategy options for preserving your community and environment from a poorly designed development project. Identifying those options, and selecting the one most likely to result in the desired outcome can be a daunting task for those new to land use and environmental advocacy. An initial strategy analysis can identify possible strategy options and help determine which one is most likely to succeed. Generally, an initial strategy analysis consists of the following steps:

1. Conversation with you to understand what you hope to accomplish, where you are in the process, and

your thoughts on the most viable strategy options.

2.  Review of relevant documents that you have and others we obtain from the local government and others.

3.  Identify all permits and/or approvals the applicant must obtain.

4.  Talk with regulatory staff to see which options offer the best opportunity to resolve your concerns.

5.  With your approval, make contact with the applicant to explore their willingness to adopt a solution to

     mitigate identified concerns.

6.  For projects that are so fatally-flawed, provide a strategy analysis for defeating the project.

7.  Identify possible legal strategies and assess probability of success.

8.  Depending on the complexity of the project, provide you with a verbal report of the strategy analysis by conference call or in-person meeting, or a written report.
